AR glass fibres
Alkali-resistant chopped strands reinforce the cement matrix. The supplied technical profile uses approximately 5% fibre by weight for sprayed GRC.
NICE SPRINGGRC / MATERIALS & SPECIFICATIONS
Composition, manufacture and typical properties of GRC, alongside architectural details from our projects.

01 / ARCHITECTURAL APPLICATIONPhotographs show architectural applications from the project archive. Colours and surface appearance are agreed through project samples.
COMPOSITION & CONTROL
Fibre type, fibre content, aggregate grading, water–cement ratio, compaction and curing all influence the finished GRC. Raw materials and production controls must be considered together.

TECHNICAL REFERENCE / GRC
Reference ranges for hand-sprayed GRC. Mechanical values refer to the material at 28 days; they are not structural design values or a certificate for a supplied product.
| Property | Typical range | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Dry density | 1,900–2,100 kg/m³ | Normal-density GRC |
| Flexural strength / MOR | 18–30 N/mm² | Hand-sprayed / 28 days |
| Limit of proportionality / LOP | 5–10 N/mm² | Hand-sprayed / 28 days |
| Ultimate tensile strength / UTS | 8–12 N/mm² | Sprayed GRC / 28 days |
| Thermal conductivity | 0.5–1.0 W/(m·K) | Depends on moisture content |
| Thermal expansion | 10–20 × 10⁻⁶ /°C | Depends on moisture content |
Typical ranges are cross-checked against the GRCA Practical Design Guide. Project acceptance is based on the specified grade and verified testing.
RAW MATERIALS
Alkali-resistant chopped strands reinforce the cement matrix. The supplied technical profile uses approximately 5% fibre by weight for sprayed GRC.
Portland cement and washed, dried sand form the mortar. The company profile specifies a maximum sand size of 1.18 mm for sprayed GRC.
Clean water and correctly dosed admixtures control workability, cohesion and setting. Dosing follows the manufacturer’s instructions.
Pigments can colour the material. Uniformity is checked against agreed samples and controlled through batching and production.
PERFORMANCE IN SERVICE
Cement-based materials shrink on drying and expand when rewetted. Joints and fixings must accommodate moisture and thermal movement.
Chemical resistance depends on the cement matrix, permeability and exposure conditions. Acidic or sulphate-bearing environments require project-specific assessment.
Panel thickness, mass and assembly affect acoustic performance. GRC can be combined with insulation; the material alone does not define the thermal performance of the wall.
